Last night I was invited to watch the races at Bowman Gray Stadium. I have to admit, I'm not a NASCAR girl and I planned on staying for 5 minutes, tops. I got there and things were definitely what I expected. It was loud, it smelled like exhaust, and there were bugs everywhere. It was also over 90 degrees and it was nighttime. I was out of my element for sure. So, I sat down and watched the first race. Cars were lining up and the flag was waved for the race to start. Then there was a huge crash. People were screaming and the driver jumped out of his car and started fighting with the other driver. It was a "Jerry Springer" moment at it's finest. I started to realize why people go to these events. It's not just about the cars, it's about the fights and the crashes! I was suddenly filled with laughter and excitement! I have found my new guilty pleasure. :)
As if the first race wasn't funny enough, the last race was what is called a "chain race." Two cars are attached together with a chain and the front car steers (it has an engine) and the rear car is the brakes (it has no engine). I have never seen anything like this!! There was so much action, I had no idea where to look!
The chain race cars.
The cars lining up to start the race.
A huge wreck!
Another pile-up! You can see one set of cars is going backwards! Crazy!
